The Tribal Welfare Department of the Tripura government held an administrative meeting with surrendered militants to discuss the release of various packages and address their grievances under the tripartite agreement. The meeting, held at the Secretariat, was attended by Tribal Welfare Minister Bikas Debbarma, leaders of surrendered militant groups, and officials from various departments. In 2024, a tripartite agreement was signed between the central government, the Tripura state government, and leaders of the NLFT and ATTF militant groups to restore peace in the state. Under this agreement, on September 25, 2024, in the presence of Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha, around 584 members of NLFT and ATTF laid down their arms and returned to mainstream life. Several rehabilitation packages were announced for them, but many are yet to be implemented. In response, the Tripura United Indigenous Returnees People's Council (TUIRPC) started demanding the release of these packages. On February 25, TUIRPC staged a national highway blockade in Hatighara, warning of larger protests if their demands were not met.Following this, the government convened Tuesday's meeting with TUIRPC leaders to address their concerns. TUIRPC President Daniel Borak welcomed the discussion, stating that the meeting covered detailed discussions on package releases and the various challenges faced by surrendered militants. Other TUIRPC leaders, including Ananta Debbarma, Binay Debbarma, Ananta Krishna Jamatia, Thomas Tripura, Bishw Mohan Debbarma, and Upendra Reang, were also present.
