The historic Mata Tripura Sundari Temple at Matabari in Udaipur has been transformed into a spectacular destination of lights, devotion and celebration as the three-day Diwali Mahotsav 2026 commenced on Sunday, November 8, with Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha formally inaugurating the festivities.

Thousands of devotees and visitors are expected to converge at the famous Shakti Peetha during the three-day celebration, which will continue until November 10. The entire temple complex and its surrounding areas have been decorated with colourful illumination, creating a magnificent festive atmosphere at one of Tripura's most revered religious destinations.

The inauguration was marked by religious ceremonies and traditional rituals. One of the major highlights of the opening day was the Kalyan Arati at Kalyan Sagar, in which Chief Minister Manik Saha personally participated, offering prayers and joining devotees in the sacred ceremony.

A special yajna was also organised within the premises of the Tripureshwari Mata Temple as part of the Diwali celebrations. The religious rituals were conducted amid an atmosphere of devotion, with devotees gathering to seek the blessings of Goddess Tripura Sundari.

Besides the Chief Minister, several ministers and senior political leaders, including Sushanta Chowdhury, Tinku Roy and Pranjit Singh Roy, BJP state president Abhishek Debroy along with other members of the State Cabinet, were scheduled to visit the historic temple and participate in the religious festivities.

This year's Diwali Mahotsav has been planned as a major religious and cultural celebration, combining the spiritual significance of the ancient temple with modern festive attractions.

The three-day programme features spectacular lighting arrangements, special puja and religious ceremonies, cultural performances and an attractive drone show. The illumination of the temple complex has added a special charm to the celebrations, making Matabari a major attraction for pilgrims, tourists and local residents.

The annual Diwali celebration at Mata Tripura Sundari Temple holds immense religious and cultural significance. The temple, regarded as one of the 51 Shakti Peethas, attracts devotees from different parts of Tripura and neighbouring states, particularly during the annual Diwali festival.

Meanwhile, police personnel have reportedly taken strict measures to maintain discipline and protect the sanctity of the temple premises. In a notable enforcement measure, police took action against individuals entering the temple complex wearing footwear, reiterating the restrictions on wearing shoes within the sacred premises.

Security arrangements have also been strengthened in view of the anticipated gathering of thousands of devotees and visitors. Crowd management, traffic regulation and maintaining order around the temple complex remain important challenges during the festival.

With the lighting of the temple, the sacred rituals, the Kalyan Arati at Kalyan Sagar and the special yajna, and special drone showing events Matabari has once again emerged as the centre of Tripura's biggest annual religious celebration.
