Tripura BJP State President and MLA Abhishek Debroy has asserted that anyone found involved in the recent attack on Border Security Force (BSF) personnel at Boxanagar, irrespective of their political affiliation or position within the ruling party, will be brought under the ambit of law. He made it clear that even if a senior BJP leader is found involved in the incident, the person will not be spared from legal action.
Responding to allegations by opposition parties regarding attacks on political opponents and questions about the law-and-order situation in the state, Debroy maintained that nobody is above the law and that anyone acting outside its boundaries will have to face legal consequences.
"If anyone associated with our party is found involved in the attack on BSF personnel in Boxanagar, no matter how influential or senior that person may be, he will be brought under the purview of the law. Anyone who acts outside the law will be punished according to the law," the BJP state president said.
In an apparent response to allegations that members of the ruling party enjoy political protection, Debroy argued that the BJP government has not shielded its own party functionaries when they have been found involved in unlawful activities. He claimed that several BJP leaders and grassroots-level representatives, including Mandal presidents, Pradhans and Deputy Pradhans, have also been arrested during the present government's tenure.
According to Debroy, the arrest of members of his own party demonstrates that the government and the police administration are not supposed to discriminate on political grounds while enforcing the law.
His remarks come amid continuing developments following the attack on BSF personnel at Ashabari in the Boxanagar area, which has triggered widespread concern and a series of police and security operations. Several arrests have already been made in connection with the incident, with the number of arrested persons reportedly reaching 20.
The BJP president's statement assumes significance amid opposition criticism over alleged political violence and demands for impartial action against those responsible for attacks on security personnel and political opponents.
By publicly declaring that even influential BJP leaders would face arrest if evidence establishes their involvement, Debroy has sought to project the party's position that criminal activities cannot be justified or protected by political affiliation.
