In an important administrative move concerning land-related issues in the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) region, the Government of Tripura has constituted a high-level committee to examine various land issues within the autonomous district council areas.

The Revenue Department issued an official notification on November 6, 2026, announcing the constitution of the committee, comprising senior officials from the State Government and TTAADC. The move is expected to provide an institutional mechanism for examining long-standing land-related issues in the tribal autonomous areas and facilitating coordination between the State Government and the District Council.

According to the notification, the Secretary of the Tribal Welfare Department, Government of Tripura, will serve as the Convenor of the committee. The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of TTAADC has been included as a member, ensuring representation of the autonomous district council in the process.

The other members of the committee include the Secretary of the Home Department, Secretary of the Revenue Department, Additional Secretary of the Revenue Department, Director of Land Records and Settlement, Government of Tripura, Principal Officer of Land Records and Settlements, TTAADC, and Principal Officer (Law), TTAADC.

The composition of the committee indicates that the government intends to examine the land-related matters through the involvement of departments and officials dealing with tribal welfare, revenue administration, land records, legal affairs and the autonomous district council administration.

The inclusion of the Chief Executive Officer and two senior officials from TTAADC is particularly significant, as the committee will have direct institutional representation from the council alongside senior officials of the State Government.

Land-related issues within the TTAADC areas have remained an important administrative and political concern, involving questions of land ownership, records, settlement, customary rights, administrative jurisdiction and the implementation of constitutional safeguards under the Sixth Schedule.

The formation of the committee also assumes significance in the context of ongoing discussions surrounding the implementation of the tripartite agreement and the need to address outstanding issues between the State Government, the Centre and Tipra Motha. However, the notification specifically mandates the committee to examine land issues within the TTAADC area and does not specify a separate deadline or detailed terms of reference.

The notification, bearing No. F.4(17)/RCC/2026/75-85, was issued by the Revenue Department and signed by the Joint Secretary to the Government of Tripura.
