The investigation into the attack on Border Security Force (BSF) personnel at Ashabari in the Boxanagar area of Sepahijala district has witnessed significant developments, with police arresting two more alleged accused and the total number of arrests reportedly reaching 20. The latest arrests have intensified the investigation into the attack, with allegations emerging that certain individuals allegedly attempted to shelter accused persons and conceal evidence.

According to information emerging from the investigation, police arrested Ainal Haque from Putia village under Boxanagar after allegations that he had provided shelter to an accused person wanted in connection with the BSF attack. He was also reportedly reluctant to provide CCTV footage when police sought evidence relating to the incident. Investigators are expected to examine whether the CCTV recordings could provide further clues about the movement and whereabouts of those involved.

In another development, police arrested Hasina Akhtar from Kalapania under Sonamura police station in connection with the same case. Her arrest has added another dimension to the investigation, as police continue efforts to identify and apprehend all those allegedly involved in the attack.

Meanwhile, BSF has reportedly intensified its operations following the attack on its personnel at Ashabari. During fresh raids in Rahimpur Market, BSF personnel reportedly broke open the shutters of around five shops and warehouses, recovering a substantial quantity of sound-emitting firecrackers and other explosive-sounding fireworks.

According to allegations circulating in connection with the operation, the firecrackers had allegedly been stockpiled for smuggling across the international border into Bangladesh. The recovered materials are expected to be examined to establish their origin, ownership and intended destination. The alleged cross-border smuggling angle has raised additional security concerns in the sensitive border region.

The latest developments have also triggered political reactions. Allegations have been raised that certain political leaders attempted to shield individuals connected with the incident, including a relative of a local MLA. Questions have also been raised over the alleged role of BJP leader Alamin Hossain and whether influential individuals attempted to protect those accused in the BSF attack.
