Ahead of the upcoming Dharmanagar Municipal Council elections, the Left Front organised a massive election campaign rally and public meeting in Dharmanagar on Friday, demanding the restoration of constitutional values, protection of democratic rights and the establishment of peace and security in the lives of ordinary people. The rally and public meeting were attended by Leader of the Opposition and CPI(M) State Secretary Jitendra Chaudhury, who addressed party supporters and appealed to the people of Dharmanagar to support Left Front candidates in the municipal elections.
The rally witnessed the participation of a large number of CPI(M) and Left Front leaders, candidates, party workers, supporters and local residents. The candidates nominated by the Left Front for the municipal election were also introduced to the gathering as part of the party's campaign.
Addressing the public meeting, Jitendra Chaudhury launched a sharp attack on the ruling party and alleged that democratic institutions and constitutional rights were being undermined under the present government. He claimed that the voice of the opposition was being suppressed and that ordinary citizens were increasingly facing difficulties in exercising their democratic rights.
Emphasising the importance of free, fair and peaceful municipal elections, Chaudhury appealed to the people to come forward to protect the Constitution and restore democratic practices in the state. He maintained that safeguarding democracy and constitutional rights required active participation from citizens, particularly at a time when local body elections were approaching.
Raising concerns over the law-and-order situation, the CPI(M) leader alleged that peace and security had deteriorated across Tripura, including in Dharmanagar. He claimed that the prevailing situation was affecting the normal lives of ordinary people and creating an atmosphere of insecurity. According to him, restoring peace, social harmony and public confidence in the administration should be among the foremost priorities.
Chaudhury further argued that the Left Front could provide an alternative approach to governance, with emphasis on public welfare, democratic accountability and the delivery of essential civic services. Appealing directly to the voters of Dharmanagar, he urged them to elect Left Front-nominated candidates to ensure comprehensive development of the Municipal Council and better civic amenities for residents.
The rally and public meeting formed an important part of the Left Front's election campaign in Dharmanagar. The large gathering of party workers, supporters and local residents reflected the opposition alliance's efforts to mobilise voters ahead of the municipal polls.
The Left Front leadership expressed confidence in its candidates and called upon the electorate to make the municipal election an opportunity to defend democratic rights, restore peace and strengthen accountable local governance.
