Despite the apparent smooth sailing in 20 of the state’s 21 civic bodies across the state including the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC), the ruling BJP’s electoral boat is getting rocked in the polls for Ambassa municipal council in Dhalai district. Earlier there were reports of dissension in the party unit in Ambassa on multiple issues including nomination for the November 27 civic polls but this has now come out in an ugly manner today.

As a mark of protest against the party’s decision on putting up candidates for the electionto Ambassa municipal council, the president of Yuba Morcha, BJP’s youth wing, in Ambassa Bishwajit Roy today filed nomination today as rebel independent candidate for Ward no-10. To make matters worse, Sagarika Biswas Saha , wife of Ambassa Mandal’s IT in charge Shubhajit Saha, has filed nomination for Ward no-6. The duo will be locked in a fight against the party’s official candidates in these two wards. Sources from Ambassa said that already there have been lot of resignations from the party to protest the decisions of the state leadership in regard to nomination of candidates and on other issues. No official response to the dissensions in party in Ambassa has yet been received.

It was well ahead of the commencement of nomination process that TPCC president Asish Kumar Saha had predicted that there would be seat adjustment between CPI (M) and Congress in Ambassa as the BJP there is rent by internal dissensions. Now today’s development has confirmed Asish Saha’s prediction partially . Sources said that in view of the dissension in BJP the Congress and CPI (M) may reach a seat adjustment for the civic polls in Ambassa before the last date of withdrawal of nominations.
