At a time when there is speculated unrest at the state level of leadership of the party, the faction ridden Congress in Kailasahar, headquarter of Uankoti district of Tripura, put up a united show in the upcoming election to the 17-Ward Kailasahar municipal council. All seventeen Congress candidates for the Kailasahar municipal council polls today filed nomination papers in the office of the SDM (Kailasahar) Bipul Kanti Das who is also the returning officer.

Sources said that a large procession with all seventeen candidates and their supporters had started from the Paitur Bazar area, residential area of sitting MLA and former PCC president Birajit Sinha, and meandered through many areas of the town before converging on the SDM office. Several thousand Congress workers and supporters had taken part in the procession enthusiastically . All the candidates finally filed their nomination papers to the SDM (Kailasahar) and returning officer Bipul Kanti Das . The procession of Congress workers and supporters and the filing of nomination papers were led by the Unakoti district Congress president Badru Uzzaman and senior Congress leader Rudrendu Bhattacharjee. Speaking to media persons Badru Uzzaman asserted that this time Congress will capture the Kailasahar municipal council . “The BJP is in a very poor shape here as it is fragmented into several factions , specially after the resignation of outgoing vice chairman of Kailasahar municipal council , Nitish Dey; their track record in running the municipal council is also very poor , so we are confident of winning the election this time” said Badru Uzzaman.

Sources said that the sitting Congress MLA of Kailasahar and former PCC president Birajit Sinha is currently in Delhi in connection with party programmes but is in close touch with the district leaders of the party. He is returning soon to lead the campaign for the upcoming municipal polls.
