A woman Tripura Civil Service (TCS) officer was allegedly assaulted and pulled by her hair by a parking attendant at Agartala Railway Station over a Rs 20 parking fee, triggering serious concerns over women's safety, law enforcement, and the alleged indifference of the Tripura Civil Service Officers' Association.
The victim, identified as Kalpana Mog, was reportedly subjected to physical assault in broad daylight following a dispute over parking charges while dropping off a passenger at the railway station. The incident has raised questions about the safety and dignity of ordinary passengers and public servants alike.
The controversy has intensified following allegations that the accused parking attendant was released by police within just three hours of the incident. The circumstances surrounding the release and the action taken by the police have prompted demands for an impartial investigation and accountability.
The alleged assault has also drawn attention to the apparent silence of the Tripura Civil Service Officers' Association. Despite the victim reportedly being a fellow woman TCS officer, the association has not been publicly heard protesting the incident or demanding justice, raising questions about its response to an alleged assault on one of its own members.
The absence of a visible protest or public statement from the association has fuelled criticism over whether it is adequately standing up for the safety, dignity, and rights of its members, particularly women officers facing alleged violence.
According to allegations, the confrontation began when the officer questioned the demand for a Rs 20 parking fee while dropping off a passenger. The dispute reportedly escalated into a physical altercation, during which the attendant allegedly assaulted her and pulled her by the hair.
The incident has also revived concerns about the conduct of parking contractors at railway stations. Passengers have alleged instances of aggressive behaviour, demands for cash without receipts, refusal to accept digital payments, and failure to display valid identification.
Questions have also been raised about the rules governing passenger pick-up and drop-off facilities at Agartala Railway Station. Railway authorities are being urged to clarify whether parking charges apply to brief drop-offs and to ensure that the rules are prominently displayed.
Residents and passengers are demanding a thorough investigation, appropriate legal action against anyone found responsible, and stronger supervision of parking contractors. They have also called upon the TCS Officers' Association to break its silence and publicly seek justice for the allegedly assaulted officer.
