Sagar Datta Majumder, a young man from Krishnanagar in Agartala, has qualified for the interview stage of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) Civil Services Examination for the second time, with the Mains results declared on Wednesday.

Majumder had first cleared the UPSC Mains in 2024, securing an All India Rank of 317 in the final examination and earning a place in the Indian Revenue Service (IRS). Although he joined the service, he did not proceed with the training. Instead, he took one year's leave to make another attempt at improving his rank.

His father, Tapas Datta Majumder, said Sagar appeared for the examination again with the aim of securing a better rank. With his name figuring in the latest Mains results, he has once again qualified for the personality test, the final stage before the declaration of the results.

"Whether his rank has improved will be known only after the interview process is completed and the final results are announced," his father said.

Sagar completed his schooling at Ramakrishna Mission, Agartala, before pursuing a degree in Physics at Ramjas College in New Delhi.

This was his fifth attempt at the UPSC Civil Services Examination, including two attempts during the Covid-19 pandemic. Ahead of the examination, he had also undergone six months of coaching in New Delhi.

His father, Tapas Datta Majumder, is a retired ONGC official, while his mother, Gouri Datta Majumder, is a homemaker.
