Congress candidates file nominations for 50 of the 51 wards of AMC, Asish Saha promises better civic amenities if elected

Altogether 50 of the Congress’s 51 candidates for as many wards under the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) filed their nominations for the November 27 elections . All the Congress candidates moved towards the returning officer’s offices at the head of procession by party workers and supporters and filed their nomination papers amidst enthusiasm. The nomination for one of the remaining wards will be filed tomorrow , said PCC president Asish Kumar Saha.
Speaking to media persons on the sidelines of the nomination submission formalities , PCC president Asish Kumar Saha lashed out at the state government and the BJP dominated AMC authority for failure to provide proper civic amenities to the people living within AMC area and accused the outgoing corporation authority of gross corruption and wastage of public money. “Despite being in power in AMC over the past five years the BJP controlled council have not adopted any master plan for the development of Agartala and the so-called smart city project has been made a mess of ; there is corruption everywhere” said Asish.
He was particularly critical of the steep increases in property tax and water tax effected by the outgoing AMC without giving corresponding benefits to the people. Besides, Asish also pointed out the crisis in supply of pure drinking water to tax-paying residents of AMC areas. “The lack pure drinking water supply is creating serious health hazards for the people and, in addition , the drainage system in Agartala has near totally collapsed ; all this is having a debilitating effect on the public health of Agartala and its citizens” said Asish.
He asserted that, if elected to power, the Congress led council will review all the gamut of issues and try to rationalize the tax structure and resolve all the problems. Asish expressed the hope that the people of Agartala, fed up with the mismanagement of AMC and BJP’s misrule, will cast their votes in favour of the Congress candidates.
