The BJP and Tipra Motha have decided to contest the upcoming municipal corporation and urban local body elections in Tripura together, but negotiations over seat-sharing remain inconclusive, with Tipra Motha seeking a respectable number of seats in the alliance.

Tripura Minister Ratan Lal Nath said the decision to fight the civic polls jointly had been finalised and that the final seat-sharing arrangement between the two parties would be announced by tomorrow night.

However, Tipra Motha MLA Ranjit Debbarma offered a more cautious assessment, stating that although both parties had agreed to fight the elections together during discussions at the BJP State Guest House, the allocation of seats had not yet been settled.

According to Debbarma, negotiations between the two parties are still underway, and the final agreement on seat-sharing remains unclear.

He also indicated that Tipra Motha had already finalised its candidates for the municipal corporation and Nagar Panchayat elections, even as discussions with the BJP continue over the distribution of constituencies.

The alliance has emerged as a significant development ahead of the civic polls, with both parties seeking to consolidate their electoral strength through a joint contest. However, the unresolved question of seat allocation remains a key point of negotiation, particularly as Tipra Motha presses for a respectable share of seats.

While Minister Ratan Lal Nath expressed confidence that the seat-sharing formula would be announced by Monday night, Tipra Motha's position suggests that negotiations are still ongoing and that the final arrangement will depend on further discussions between the alliance partners.

The announcement of the seat-sharing agreement is now being closely watched by party workers and political observers, as it will determine the electoral strategy and candidate deployment of both parties across the urban local bodies in Tripura.
