Tripura Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha has expressed confidence that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will perform well in the upcoming municipal elections, asserting that the party intends to win public support through its commitment to development, good governance and people-oriented policies.
Speaking to reporters yesterday, Saha said the government was working for the welfare of every citizen and that the BJP would approach voters with its record of development rather than confrontation with political opponents.
“People are the reason we work. We are working for the people and for their development. There is no place for the opposition in our minds when it comes to serving the people,” the Chief Minister said.
He added that the BJP understood the distinction between working for the people and engaging in political rivalry, expressing confidence that voters would recognise the government's efforts.
The municipal elections in Tripura are scheduled to take place on November 27, with counting of votes on December 1. The nomination process began on Saturday, while candidates can submit their nomination papers until November 6.
The elections are being held across 21 urban local bodies, making them a significant political test for the ruling BJP and the opposition parties.
Saha said the BJP had performed well in the previous municipal elections and expressed optimism about repeating that success. He also emphasised that the party would focus on maintaining law and order, accelerating development and improving civic infrastructure.
The Chief Minister said the government remained committed to addressing people's concerns and improving living conditions across the state. He also referred to the prevailing political situation in the country, expressing concern over developments at the national level and the opposition's changing political strategies.
Saha maintained that the BJP's approach would remain centred on public service and development, adding that the party was confident of winning the trust of voters in the forthcoming municipal elections.
With campaigning expected to intensify in the coming days, the Chief Minister's remarks signal the BJP's emphasis on governance and public outreach as it prepares for a crucial electoral contest in Tripura's urban areas.
