CPI(M) Tripura State Secretary Jitendra Chaudhury has strongly condemned the alleged attack on party workers in Kamalpur during the first day of nomination filing for the upcoming municipal elections, demanding the immediate arrest of those responsible and urging CPI(M) supporters to resist political violence and intimidation.

Four CPI(M) workers were reportedly injured when alleged BJP-backed miscreants attacked them while they were proceeding to submit nomination papers for the Kamalpur Nagar Panchayat elections on Saturday. The victims reportedly sustained head injuries, with some suffering bleeding wounds.

Reacting to the incident, Chaudhury demanded that the police identify and arrest all those involved in the attack without delay. He accused the ruling party's miscreants of attempting to prevent opposition candidates from exercising their democratic rights through violence and intimidation.

Chaudhury also appealed to CPI(M) supporters and party workers to stand firm against political terror, resist attempts to obstruct the nomination process and defend democratic rights through organised and peaceful resistance.

The attack reportedly triggered tension in Kamalpur, where opposition candidates were attempting to file nominations for the 11 wards of the Nagar Panchayat. Central security personnel were subsequently deployed in the area.

The incident has intensified concerns over the safety of opposition candidates during the municipal election process. The Left Front has also approached the State Election Commission, seeking adequate security for candidates and immediate intervention to prevent further violence.

The CPI(M) leadership has called for a peaceful but determined response to the alleged attacks, insisting that every candidate must be allowed to participate in the electoral process without fear.

The party has demanded that the authorities take prompt action against the perpetrators and ensure that the remaining nomination process and subsequent polling are conducted in a free, fair and peaceful manner.
