The ruling BJP today got a massive moral boost from high attendance in a slew of rallies that marched through the Agartala town under the leadership of party’s topmost functionaries including the chief minister Dr Manik Saha to castigated the attempted anarchy sought to be created across the country by the opposition on the fake issue of SIR and alleged vote theft as also to observe the national ‘unity day’ on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel. The first major rally participated in by thousands of BJP workers and supporters had come from the Suryamoni Nagar assembly constituency under the leadership of deputy speaker Ram Prasad Paul who held the microphone and kept on addressing crowd of supporters as well as common people lined up on both sides of the roads in city thoroughfares. It was a grand success but what raised some eye-brows were shoe-garlanded pictures of Rahul Gandhi, AICC president Mallkarjun Kharge , state CPI (M) secretary Jiten Chowdhury and former chief minister Manik Sarkar.

However , the central rally had started from the Swami Vivekananda ground where the chef minister Dr Manik Saha was formally felicitated after ceremonial welcome . The chief minister also briefly addressed the big gathering highlighting the life and achievements of Sardar Patel and his contribution to unifying the country after independence through merger of several recalcitrant princely states with the Indian union. After the speech the chief minister flagged off the ‘unity rally’ which marched through the town with thousands of people walking in it and the rally finally ended in the Swami Vivekananda ground.

All the top leaders of the party like the chief minister Dr Manik Saha, former chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb, former union minister of state Pratima Bhowmik, BJP state president Abhishek Debroy, ministers Ratan Lal Nath, Sushanta Chowdhury, Sudhangshu Das, Santana Chakma, MLAs, Meena Rani Sarkar, Antara Debsarkar and other MLAs and ministers. The minister for power and agriculture Ratan Lal Nath attracted the attention of the crowd lined up on both sides of the road by dancing his way ahead in a rhythmic manner along with his supporters. There were the usual slogans like the ‘defeat the opposition attempt to create anarchy in the country’, ‘rebuff the campaign of calumny against the election commission’ and ‘defeat the conspiracy to break the unity and integrity of the nation’.

Apart from the elected representatives, the secretary of ICA and health Kiran Gittye, other senior officials from most of the departments, internationally renowned gymnast Deepa Karmakar , other important public personalities and large number of school students also took part in the ‘unity rally’ and walked in it . Today’s rally proved to be state BJP’s fitting reply to the programme organized by the opposition Congress and CPI (M) yesterday and gave a moral booster to the party ahead of the upcoming statewide civic body elections.
