Nabendu Bhattacharjee, Chairman of the Society for Management of Cultural Complex under the Information & Cultural Affairs Department and a BJP spokesperson, has alleged unscientific construction and large-scale financial irregularities in the reconstruction of Agartala's Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan and Nazrul Kalakshetra.

Speaking at a press conference, Bhattacharjee said the BJP-led Tripura government would reinvestigate the alleged irregularities in both cultural complexes, which were constructed during the Left Front regime between 2010 and 2014.

More than 12 years after their construction, concerns have resurfaced over the quality of the buildings, including reported water seepage and other defects at Rabindra Bhavan, reconstructed by NBCC.

Bhattacharjee's allegations have renewed questions about construction quality, project expenditure and accountability in public infrastructure projects.

Notably, both Rabindra Bhavan and Nazrul Kalakshetra were constructed during the Left Front government's tenure between 2010 and 2014. The latest allegations come amid concerns over water seepage and other reported construction defects at Rabindra Bhavan. The alleged defects have raised questions about the quality of construction and whether adequate technical supervision and quality-control measures were followed.

Bhattacharjee's allegations also bring renewed attention to earlier investigations into alleged corruption and financial irregularities in major PWD projects undertaken during the Left Front regime, including the Agartala flyover project.

Although several investigations and chargesheets were initiated in connection with those cases, the ultimate results was a big zero as no legal outcomes and any proof of corruptions remain established which was reportedly a matter of public interest. The latest announcement of a possible reinvestigation could reopen scrutiny of the construction projects and the financial decisions associated with them.

The allegations made by the society's Chairman have yet to be independently established. Any fresh investigation would need to examine technical records, project expenditure, construction quality and the responsibilities of the agencies and officials involved.
