In another significant recruitment-related development in Tripura, the Joint Recruitment Board of Tripura (JRBT) has announced that the Interview/Personality Test for eligible candidates against 414 vacancies in three categories of Group-C posts will commence from December 15, 2026.

The notification, dated October 28, 2026, has been issued in compliance with a series of orders passed by the Tripura High Court in connection with recruitment-related cases. The announcement covers the posts of Lower Division Clerk (LDC), Junior Operator (Pump) and Junior Multi-Tasking Operator (Uncommon).

Of the total 414 vacancies, 31 are for Lower Division Clerk, 185 for Junior Operator (Pump) and 198 for Junior Multi-Tasking Operator. The category-wise distribution includes 187 unreserved (UR), 69 Scheduled Caste (SC) and 158 Scheduled Tribe (ST) vacancies.

The LDC category has 31 vacancies, comprising one SC and 30 ST posts, while there are no unreserved vacancies in this category. Junior Operator (Pump) has 87 UR, 34 SC and 64 ST vacancies. Junior Multi-Tasking Operator has 100 UR, 34 SC and 64 ST vacancies. The vacancy figures also include posts earmarked for ex-servicemen under the respective categories.

The notification further identifies 28 vacancies for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD). These include 11 vacancies under Category D for LDC, nine vacancies for Junior Operator (Pump), comprising four each under Categories A and B and one under Category C, and eight vacancies for Junior Multi-Tasking Operator, comprising two vacancies each under Categories A, B, C and D.

The present notification does not invite fresh applications. It concerns the continuation of the earlier JRBT Group-C recruitment process, for which the written examination was conducted on August 22, 2021. The current exercise relates to the selection of eligible candidates for the subsequent stages of recruitment.

As per the original recruitment criteria, candidates applying for the LDC post were required to possess Madhyamik or equivalent qualifications from a recognised Board or Institution, basic computer knowledge and English typing proficiency of at least 30 words per minute. The technical posts carried their respective educational and technical qualification requirements, including Madhyamik and relevant National Trade Certificate qualifications in specified trades, as prescribed in the original recruitment notification.

The original recruitment prospectus prescribed an age limit of 18 to 41 years, with applicable relaxations for SC/ST, Persons with Disabilities and government employees under the relevant rules. The eligibility of candidates in the present selection process will be governed by the applicable recruitment rules and subsequent directions of the authorities and the High Court.

The original written examination carried a total of 170 marks through two papers. Paper I comprised English for 40 marks and job-oriented knowledge for 30 marks. Paper II consisted of General Knowledge and Current Affairs for 100 marks. The English syllabus included reading comprehension, gap filling, articles, prepositions, tense, transformation of sentences, narration, editing, error finding, voice change, synonyms, antonyms and sentence rearrangement.

The job-oriented knowledge section covered administrative setup, basic technological applications in office work, punctuality, cleanliness and related workplace matters. The General Knowledge and Current Affairs paper covered contemporary issues, general knowledge relating to India and the world, elementary Indian history, Indian geography and the Constitution of India. The original examination was objective and OMR-based, without negative marking.

The present recruitment exercise has gained significance following judicial intervention. The JRBT notification refers to the Tripura High Court's order dated August 12, 2025, in WP(C) No. 264 of 2024, the judgment and order dated April 30, 2026, in WP(C) No. 695 of 2024, and the subsequent order dated September 15, 2026, passed in I.A. No. 01 of 2026 in WP(C) No. 695 of 2024.

In its directions concerning the recruitment process, the High Court addressed the consideration of candidates who had obtained qualifying marks in the written examination, document verification and preparation of post-wise merit lists. The process also involves calling eligible candidates for interviews in the prescribed 1:3 ratio, subject to applicable eligibility and reservation provisions.

According to the latest JRBT notification, the Interview/Personality Test will commence from December 15, 2026 onwards. However, the Board has not yet announced the individual interview dates, venue or reporting time for candidates. The detailed programme, provisional call letters/admission certificates and other relevant instructions will be made available in due course.

The Board has also reserved the right to change or reschedule the interview dates in unavoidable circumstances. Candidates are advised to regularly visit the official JRBT website, www.jrbtripura.com, and the Directorate of Employment Services and Manpower Planning website, www.employment.tripura.gov.in, for further announcements and updates.
