The scale of competition for government employment in Tripura has become increasingly intense, with as many as 43,576 candidates being allowed to appear in the written examination for recruitment to Group D posts (Orderly and Guard) in the District and Subordinate Judiciary of Tripura. Interestingly, among the applicants are reportedly candidates holding B.Tech, M.Tech and various Master's degrees, although the minimum educational qualification prescribed for these posts is only Madhyamik or an equivalent examination.

The number of applications and the educational background of applicants offer a glimpse into the growing competition for even the lowest-level government jobs in the state. The situation also raises questions about the availability of employment opportunities for educated youths, including technically qualified and postgraduate candidates.

According to the original Advertisement No. DC 01/2025, issued by the High Court of Tripura on May 23, 2025, the recruitment process initially provided for 69 Group-D vacancies. The advertisement prescribed a monthly fixed remuneration of Rs 12,000, equivalent to 75 per cent of the Group-D entry-level pay of Rs 16,000 under Pay Matrix Level-01. The minimum educational qualification was Madhyamik or an equivalent examination.

However, the vacancy figure has reportedly increased to around 100, according to the latest information available regarding the recruitment. The High Court's notification dated October 30, 2026, has now confirmed that all 43,576 candidates have been allowed to appear in the written examination for the Group- D vacancies.

Even considering the increased vacancy figure of around 100, the number of applicants remains exceptionally high. Against the original 69 advertised vacancies, the competition works out to approximately 632 candidates for each post. Even with around 100 vacancies, there would be roughly 436 candidates competing for each post.

The written examination will be held on December 13, 2026 (Sunday), from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at various examination centres across Tripura.

As per the recruitment notification, the written examination will carry 75 marks, comprising letter writing, handwriting tests in English and Bengali, and general knowledge and current affairs. Candidates qualifying in the written examination will be called for a viva-voce carrying 25 marks.

The High Court has announced that candidates can download their call letters from December 1, 2026, through the official website, https://thc.nic.in, by clicking on the 'Recruitment (Online Application)' tab and using their application login credentials.

Candidates must carry their call letters and valid photo identity cards to the examination centres. Those who have forgotten their login credentials can seek assistance through [email protected].

The latest recruitment figures provide a striking indication of the employment situation in Tripura, where thousands of educated youths are competing for a limited number of government positions. The reported participation of engineering graduates and postgraduate degree holders in a recruitment process requiring only Madhyamik qualification further highlights the intensity of competition in the state's government job market.
