The Tripura Government’s Department of Information and Cultural Affairs on Wednesday organised the award distribution ceremony for ‘Sharad Samman 2026’ and ‘Mayer Gaman 2026’ at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan in Agartala, recognising some of the best Durga Puja pandals, innovative decorations and outstanding contributions by puja organisers across the state.

Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha attended the programme as the chief guest. Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor Dipak Majumder, Secretary of the concerned department Kiran Gitte, Director Bimbisar Bhattacharya and other distinguished guests were also present at the ceremony.

A total of 28 clubs were honoured in different categories under the two award programmes in recognition of their efforts in organising Durga Puja celebrations and their contributions to creativity, artistic presentation and the festive atmosphere.

In the big-budget Durga Puja category, Kunjaban Sporting Union secured first place, emerging as the top award winner in the category. Chhatra Bandhu Club secured second place, while Nabodiganta Club also attracted particular attention during this year’s Sharad Samman programme.

The awards highlighted the growing competition among Agartala’s puja organisers to create attractive pandals, distinctive themes and visually impressive festive installations. Every year, clubs across the city invest considerable effort in planning their celebrations, combining artistic expression, decorative lighting, innovative designs and traditional elements to attract visitors during Durga Puja.

The Sharad Samman awards have become an important platform for acknowledging the dedication of puja committees and encouraging them to raise the standards of their celebrations. Beyond financial investment, the appeal of a successful puja pandal often depends on the originality of its theme, the quality of its craftsmanship, the presentation of the idol and the overall experience offered to visitors.

The recognition of Kunjaban Sporting Union and Chhatra Bandhu Club in the big-budget category reflects the competitive spirit among leading puja organisers. Nabodiganta Club’s notable presence further underlined the diversity of efforts contributing to Agartala’s festive landscape.

The ‘Mayer Gaman’ programme also formed part of the award ceremony, bringing recognition to the celebrations and activities associated with the conclusion of the Durga Puja festivities. Together, the two programmes sought to acknowledge the contribution of clubs and organisers to the cultural life of Tripura.

The ceremony served as an occasion to appreciate the work of puja organisers, whose preparations extend over weeks and involve artists, decorators, volunteers and local residents. Their efforts help preserve the cultural significance of Durga Puja while making the festival an important public celebration.

With 28 clubs receiving awards across different categories, Sharad Samman and Mayer Gaman 2026 concluded with official recognition of the organisers’ creativity, planning and commitment to the state’s festive traditions.
