Taking advantage of the growing anti-incumbency against the state government , the faction-ridden Congress is trying to mobilise public opinion in its favour in the run-up to the statewide civic polls on the fake and cooked up issue of so-called ‘vote theft’ and SIR. Yesterday the sitting Congress MLA of Kailasahar and former PCC president Birajit Sinha organised a big torch rally in his home town of Kailasahar. A large number of Congress supporters had gathered at the Kailsahar ‘Samhati Mela’ ground at 5-00 in the evening and marched through the town with burning torches in their hands shouting slogans against so-called ‘Vote theft’ and also against the chief election commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. This was fairly well attended.
Addressing the rally former PCC president and sitting Congress MLA Gopal Roy and his MLA Colleague Birajit Sinha who is also a former PCC president said that under BJP rule democracy in India was being destroyed as there were and there still are ‘vote thefts’ at the indulgence of the election commission in the name of the SIR. “We call upon all of you to remain on high alert on the sensitive issue and protect your voting rights , otherwise BJP is trying hard to snatch your voting rights” said Gopal and Biirajit . Speaking at the beginning the district Congress president and popular local leader Badruzzoman also made a similar plea ,accusing BJP of trying to divide the country on caste and creed and of trying to snatch the voting rights of people. He also asked all the voters to remain on guard against this conspiracy and to protect their legal rights . Speaking to this portal Gopal Roy said today that the rally yesterday in Kailsahar was a grand success and this time Congress will capture the Kailasahar municipal council . He added that both himself as well as fellow-MLA Birajit Sinha will attend tomorrow’s INDIA alliance rally and deputation at Agartala.
