Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal Khattar is expected to visit Agartala on October 29 or 30 to inaugurate the Light House Project, with the first batch of flats ready for allotment to beneficiaries, officials said.

Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha is also expected to attend the inauguration, although the final date of the programme is yet to be confirmed.

According to officials, 267 flats will be handed over to beneficiaries in the first phase. The remaining flats are expected to be completed and distributed within the next three months, following the prescribed procedures.

The affordable housing project has drawn interest from a large number of applicants, with around 200 beneficiaries reportedly on the waiting list. Flats have been priced at Rs 5 lakh for beneficiaries under the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) category, while applicants in other eligible categories will have to pay around Rs 7 lakh. A non-refundable booking fee of Rs 5,000 is required for enrolment under the scheme.

The project, intended to provide affordable housing to eligible families, has faced repeated delays after the implementing agency missed several deadlines. The proposed inauguration is expected to mark a significant step towards handing over the completed homes to beneficiaries who have been waiting for the project to become operational.
