AMC goes on inaugurating beautification programmes, Mayor takes part in ‘BhumiPujan’ for development and beautification of pond near Womens College

With the statewide 21 civic body elections drawing close the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) is on a spree of launching beautification and development projects on ponds and lakes in and around the state capital. This morning the AMC Mayor DipakMajumder laid the foundation stone and took part in the ‘BhumiPujan’ (soil worship) of the pond near thewomens college under Ward no-22 of the AMC. The actual function took place in the LalBahadurChaumuhuni area and it was attended by the deputy mayor Monika Das Datta and corporator of the Ward no-22, HimaniDebbarma.

Addressing the gathering of people on the occasion the Mayor DipakMajumder said that the AMC has taken up and launched a programme of developing and beautifying the city infrastructure. “The project that I have just laid the foundation stone for will cost at least Rs 1 crore for beautification and development; we will also build a good civic infrastructure along with implementation of the project for the benefit of city dwellers” said DipakMajumder.

He said that the AMC authority has already implemented a number of such projects including a pond in Bardowali area of Agartala while encroachments on the sprawling ‘Prabhubari’ lake which is historically significant have been removed. Dipak also stressed the urgent need for preserving and protecting the water resources in and around Agartala for the benefit of people as without proper and well-maintained water bodies the ecological balance gets disturbed and in times of emergencies like fire accidents the fire brigade staff find it extremely difficult to douse the conflagration unless water is available at hand. A large number of local people of Ward no-22 attended the programme this morning.
