Pistol Recovered from Mahindra XUV300 in Boxanagar, 21-Year-Old Youth Held After Allegedly Trying to Run Over Police

In a significant development in the fight against illegal firearms in the Boxanagar area of Sepahijala district, Kalamchoura police allegedly recovered a pistol from a Mahindra XUV300 vehicle and detained a 21-year-old youth during a late-night operation on Saturday.

The detained youth has been identified as Hridoy Mia (21), a resident of the Boxanagar Panchayat area. The recovery was reportedly made near the Samarsmriti Milanayatan, also known as the Boxanagar Town Hall area, during a search conducted as part of an investigation into a snatching case.

According to the available information, police intercepted the vehicle and conducted a search in the presence of an Additional Magistrate. A pistol was reportedly recovered from inside the vehicle, following which Hridoy Mia was taken into custody for further investigation.

Alleged Attempt to Escape by Driving Towards Police

Reports surrounding the incident also indicate that the youth allegedly attempted to flee by driving his vehicle towards police personnel. The circumstances leading to the alleged escape attempt, including whether anyone was injured and how the vehicle was eventually intercepted, have not yet been independently established.

Police are investigating the incident to determine the circumstances under which the firearm was being carried, its source, and whether it has any connection with the snatching case under investigation. Another Pistol Seizure Reported on October 20

The latest recovery has also drawn attention because another youth was reportedly arrested with a pistol near Boxanagar police station on October 20, during a police checking operation.

The two reported incidents within a short period have raised concerns about the possible circulation of illegal firearms in and around Boxanagar. However, it remains to be established whether the two cases are connected or involve any common source.

Kalamchoura police are continuing their investigation into the latest seizure. Investigators are expected to examine the circumstances of the alleged snatching incident, the source of the recovered firearm and the purpose for which it was allegedly being carried.
