Newborn baby abandoned on road near ‘Durga Puja’ pandal in Pecharthal, house-wife dies mysteriously in Khowai

In a bizarre incident a newborn infant was found abandoned by the side of the main road near the ‘Durga Puja’ pandal in the Pecharthal market last night. Sources from Pecharthal said that around 7-30 last night s group of people loitering near the ‘Durga Puja’ pandal in the market heard the wailing of an infant and going near they saw an infant lying beside the main road. The people who had seen the infant immediately informed the Pecharthal police station , health workers in the Pecharthal community health centre as well as the child protection authority of the Unakoti district. All the authorities arrived on the spot without delay and shifted the infant first to the Pecharthal community health centre for treatment . The infant is likely to be handed over to the child protection authority upon treatment for keeping in their home. Sources said that the people expressed their anger over the issue and urged upon the police to trace the parents of the infant through investigation and punish them .
Meanwhile, the dead body of a house-wife was recovered last night from near the boundary of her house in Durga Nagar area under Khowai subdivisional town. The deceased house-wife was identified as Monika Debnath (37). Sources from Khowai said that Monika had been married earlier and she had a fifteen year old daughter but then a few months ago she got married to Laxman Paul of Durga Nagar area. Sources from Khowai women police station said that they had been informed of the dead body of Monika lying beside the house of her present husband Laxman Paul late last night and they recovered the body and brought it to Khowai hospital for post-mortem. They said that apparently it was a case of suicide but things will be clear once the post-mortem report is available. But questions on how the body of Monika had reached the outer part of the boundary of her husband’s home and what her husband Laxman Paul was doing at the time when this happened still remain unclear.
