The Tripura Left Front Committee have addressed a letter to the chief minister Dr Manik Saha , urging upon him to ensure deployment of central paramilitary forces in all polling booths and notification of areas vulnerable to political violence as ‘most sensitive zones’ for the upcoming statewide elections to the civic bodies including the Agartala Municiapal Corporation. The letter, signed by former minister Manik Dey , the convener of the left front committee, Ratan Das, CPI (M) state secretariat member, Milan Baidya, member of CPI state council, Dipak Deb, RSP state secretary, Raghunath Sarkar, Forward Block state leader and Patha Karmakar, leader of CPI (ML) Liberation, have pointed out certain glaring facts pertain to last civic elections of 2021 and was submitted to the chief minister in the course of deputation.

The letter said that in the just-concluded elections to the Village Committees, the left front candidates and workers were subjected to political violence in Hezamara, Lefunga,Belbari and Jirania bocks in west district and Jampui Jala block in Sepahijala district. In these blocks supporter of non-left poitical parties had taken seats inside the block offices and attacked the left front candidates, workers and leaders. There was no level playing field in these areas.

Referring to the 2021 statewide civic elections, the letter said that the left front candidates had not been able to file nominations in Jirania, Ranir Bazar , Mohanpur, Bishalgarh and Shantir Bazar municipal councils and Nagar Panchayats. The organized political gangs had prevented the left candidates from filing nominations and resorted to all unfair means like stopping polling agents from entering booths and driving away counting agents from counting centres.

Citing these grounds the left front committee demanded that proper conditions be created for civic elections. They urged the chief minister to ensure deployment of central paramilitary forces and notify vulnerable areas mentioned in the letter as ‘most sensitive zones’ for free and fair elections. The letter has been submitted today by the left front delegation in a deputation with the chief minister.
