In a heartwarming initiative highlighting the human face of policing, Khowai District Police organised a special Durga Puja pandal-hopping programme for 21 elderly mothers residing at Sevic Senior Citizens Home in Khowai on Tuesday. The novel initiative, undertaken under the leadership of Superintendent of Police (SP), Khowai District, Shri Bogati Jagadeeswar Reddy, IPS, aimed to bring festive happiness, companionship and a sense of belonging to elderly women who might otherwise have limited opportunities to participate in community celebrations.

Going beyond their conventional responsibilities of maintaining law and order, the initiative reflected the Khowai District Police's commitment to compassionate, sensitive and elderly-friendly policing. By facilitating the elderly mothers' visit to several Durga Puja pandals, the police sought to ensure that the joy, devotion and cultural spirit of the festive season reached every section of society, particularly senior citizens who deserve special care, affection and respect.

Accompanied by officers of Khowai District Police, the 21 elderly mothers began their festive journey at the Durga Puja pandal of the 6th Battalion Tripura State Rifles (TSR) at Ramchandraghat. They received a warm welcome and were felicitated by the Commandant and officers of the 6th Battalion TSR, along with officers of Khowai District Police. The affectionate reception set a positive tone for the programme, making the elderly visitors feel welcomed, valued and included in the celebrations.

The group subsequently visited several prominent Durga Puja pandals in and around Khowai town, including Bharat Mata Club at Sonatala, Jagannath Bari Ashram Puja Mandap at Karaitala, Agradoot Club at Ganki and Skylark Club at Office Tilla. At each destination, the elderly mothers had the opportunity to experience the festive ambience, admire the decorations and participate in the devotional atmosphere surrounding the celebrations.

The initiative drew appreciation from members of the public, Puja club members and organisers, who welcomed the thoughtful efforts of the district police.
