The suspicious deaths of two brothers at West Dewanpasa under Dharmanagar police station in North Tripura have triggered widespread concern, with the victims’ father naming Bijon Das, described locally as an RSS-BJP leader, in a written complaint alleging death threats before the incident. The investigation took a further turn on Tuesday morning when police reportedly called two other youths, Bibek Bardhan, the son of a ruling-partys Panchayat upapradhan, and Akash Das, to the police station for questioning in connection with the case.

The tragedy has left the family devastated. The grieving mother, who has lost both her sons, has appealed for justice, joined by relatives and villagers who are demanding a thorough, impartial and transparent investigation. The family wants the circumstances surrounding the deaths to be established and all those found responsible on the basis of evidence to be brought to justice.

The deceased, identified as Subhadip Roy Chowdhury and Joydip Roy Chowdhury, were found dead on Monday night, October 19. According to the written complaint filed by their father, Samiran Roy Chowdhury, the brothers had allegedly received death threats the previous night while attempting to resolve a local dispute in the Dewanpasa-Boyakandi area.

The complaint states that the confrontation occurred near the highway stretch adjacent to Agrani Sangha in Dewanpasa and Badshah Tila in Boyakandi. The father alleged that Bijon Das, son of Randhir Chandra Das and a resident of Boyakandi, threatened to kill his two sons during the dispute.

Samiran Roy Chowdhury further alleged that threatening telephone calls were received on his sons’ mobile phones from Monday morning. At around 9:30 PM that night, the bodies of Subhadip and Joydip were reportedly recovered from the Boyakandi area. The alleged threats preceding the deaths have prompted the family to suspect a possible connection between the earlier confrontation and the subsequent incident.

In his complaint, the father expressed suspicion that Bijon Das and other persons might have been involved in the deaths. He has urged the police to investigate every relevant aspect of the case, establish the sequence of events and take appropriate legal action against anyone whose involvement is substantiated by evidence.

In a further development on Tuesday morning, police reportedly contacted Bibek Bardhan and Akash Das and brought them to the police station for questioning in connection with the deaths. Bibek Bardhan is reportedly the son of a local Panchayat upapradhan associated with the ruling party. Their questioning is understood to be part of the police effort to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and examine the possible links between the dispute and the deaths.

However, the precise legal status of the two youths has not been independently confirmed.
