Ahead of the ‘Mayer Gomon’ carnival scheduled for October 23, a high-level preparatory meeting was held on Tuesday at Maharani Tulsibati Girls’ School near Jackson Gate in Agartala to review arrangements for the event, with particular attention to crowd management, traffic regulation, security and idol immersion at Dashamighat.
The meeting was attended by Kiran Gitte, Secretary of the concerned state government department, Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor Dipak Majumder, Bimbisar Bhattacharya, Director of the concerned department, police representatives and other administrative officials.
During the meeting, officials discussed the arrangements required to conduct the carnival in an orderly and safe manner. The installation of barricades at strategic locations, regulation of pedestrian movement, traffic diversions and deployment of police personnel were among the major issues taken up during the review.
The concentration of spectators around Maharani Tulsibati Girls’ School and Jackson Gate is expected to pose challenges for traffic movement and crowd management. Officials discussed measures to regulate vehicle movement and guide spectators to ensure that the programme proceeds without unnecessary congestion or disruption.
The arrangements will require close coordination between the police, administration and Agartala Municipal Corporation. Advance public announcements regarding road restrictions, alternative routes and parking arrangements will be important to minimise inconvenience to commuters and residents.
The meeting also reviewed arrangements for the subsequent movement of idols to Dashamighat for immersion. Managing the movement of idol-carrying vehicles, regulating crowds at the immersion site and maintaining security throughout the process will be crucial responsibilities for the authorities.
Officials emphasised the need for coordination among the concerned departments to ensure that the carnival and the immersion process are completed smoothly.
