Dharmanagar Double Murder: Police Suspect Drug-Related Financial Dispute, Injured Man Under Guard at Hospital

A suspected financial dispute linked to drug-related transactions may have triggered the killing of two brothers in the Dharmanagar area of North Tripura, according to preliminary police suspicions. Investigators are examining the circumstances surrounding the deaths, the alleged involvement of the injured person currently undergoing treatment at the district hospital, and the sequence of events that led to the incident.
According to a written complaint submitted by Samiran Roy Chowdhury to the Officer-in-Charge of Dharmanagar Police Station, the incident reportedly occurred at late evening on October 19 in the Baruakandi area, near a local marriage hall in the Dewanpasha area. The complainant alleged that his two sons, Shubhadeep Roy Chowdhury and Jaydeep Roy Chowdhury, were threatened with death by Bijan Das, son of Chandra Das, a resident of Baruakandi.
The complaint stated that the two brothers had gone to intervene in a local dispute and attempted to calm the situation. However, they were allegedly threatened with fatal consequences during the confrontation.
The complainant further alleged that his sons subsequently received several threatening phone calls from the morning of October 19. The complaint specifically named Bijan Das as the person who had allegedly threatened to kill the two brothers the previous night. Later that night, the complainant reportedly received information that both his sons had been found dead in the Baruakandi area.
The Superintendent of Police (SP) for the North Tripura District Shri Avinash Rai, IPS said Tripurainfo.com that
Police are now investigating whether a financial dispute associated with suspected drug transactions was the underlying motive behind the incident.
He also said that investigators are also examining the possible drugs connection between the alleged threats, the confrontation and the subsequent deaths.
According to information available from the police investigation, the injured man currently undergoing treatment at the district hospital is suspected of having a role in the killing of the two brothers. However, his alleged involvement and the precise circumstances of the deaths remain subject to investigation.
In view of the seriousness of the case and the possibility of further developments, police have reportedly arranged additional security for the injured man at the hospital. The security measures are intended to ensure his safety while he remains under treatment and as investigators pursue the case.
