A brutal attack in the Baruakandi area under Dharmanagar police station in North Tripura on Maha Ashtami night has left two brothers dead and another man critically injured, triggering widespread shock and tension across the district.

The incident reportedly took place in Ward No. 6 of West Dewanpasha Gram Panchayat. The victims, identified in the available accounts as Jaydeep Roy Chowdhury and Shubhajit Roy Chowdhury, were brothers from the Dewanpasha area.

According to preliminary information, personnel from the Dharmanagar Fire and Emergency Services rescued three blood-soaked men after receiving information from local residents. They were rushed to Dharmanagar District Hospital, where two of them were declared dead. The extent of their injuries reportedly indicated that they had been attacked with sharp weapons.

The third victim, identified in different accounts as Bijan Das, sustained serious injuries and is undergoing treatment at the district hospital.

Preliminary accounts suggest that the attack may have stemmed from an earlier dispute. According to the injured man's statement, a group of individuals had allegedly attacked him in the same area one day before the fatal incident. He claimed that the assailants had attempted to kill him but failed.

He further alleged that the same individuals returned on the night of the incident and searched for the victims near their residence. After reportedly locating the three men at a nearby place, the attackers allegedly assaulted them with sharp weapons, leaving two dead and the third critically injured.

The injured man has reportedly named three individuals in connection with the alleged attack: Vivek Bardhan, Akash Das and Bishal Debnath.

Apart from the alleged previous enmity, possible financial transactions and disputes relating to business activities have also emerged as potential angles in the case.

A family member of one of the deceased reportedly suspects that financial dealings may have contributed to the incident. Meanwhile, conflicting allegations and counter-allegations have surfaced regarding the circumstances that led to the deaths of the two brothers.

However, on Sunday night, Bijan Das himself prepared to launch an attack with a knife and held Bibek Bardhan captive at Dewanpasha Haritala. Later, members of Bibek Bardhan’s family managed to secure his release.
