The Directorate of Fisheries, Government of Tripura, has set an ambitious target of selling approximately 10,170 kg of fish across the state on October 21, on the occasion of Vijaya Dashami, to meet the traditionally high demand for fish during the festive period.

According to a press note issued by the Directorate of Fisheries, the sale will be organised through 22 government-managed fish farms, fish breeding farms, fish seed centres and fisheries office complexes across Tripura. The initiative aims to ensure adequate supplies and make fish available to consumers at government-approved prices.

The department has significantly increased its target compared with last year. Approximately 5,371 kg of fish was sold during Vijaya Dashami in 2025, while the target for 2026 has been raised to 10,170 kg, reflecting an effort to improve availability during the festive season.

The designated sale centres cover Kanchanpur, Panisagar, Dharmanagar, Kumarghat, Longtarai Valley, Kamalpur, Gandachhara, Khowai, Teliamura, Jirania, Mohanpur, Sonamura, Udaipur, Amarpur, Santirbazar and Sabroom, among other locations.

The list includes government fisheries facilities such as Kanchanpur Fish Seed Centre, Panisagar Fisheries Sub-Division, Gangangar Fish Breeding Farm, Kumarghat Fish Breeding Farm, Karanchhara Fish Breeding Farm, Sarma Farm at Gandachhara, and several fisheries office complexes and government fish farms in different subdivisions.

Udaipur has been allocated a substantial quantity, including 1,600 kg for the Dhanisagar Fish Farm Office Complex and 1,500 kg for the Amarsagar Fish Breeding Farm. Other centres have also been assigned specific quantities to facilitate distribution across the state.

In Agartala, consumers will be able to purchase fish at the MG Bazar APACS Sale Centre, where Hilsa (Ilish) is expected to be a major attraction alongside other varieties.

A separate departmental order concerning fish sales for the festive occasion specifies frozen Hilsa weighing 1.2–1.29 kg at Rs 1,350 per kg and Hilsa weighing 1.3–1.5 kg at Rs 1,500 per kg. The same order lists Catla weighing 3 kg and above from Dambur Lake at Rs 450 per kg, while stored Catla weighing 2 kg and above has been priced at Rs 300 per kg. These rates include the specified sale-related expenditure.

The Directorate of Fisheries has also issued a revised price schedule for fish produced at government farms, effective from May 18, 2026. Under that schedule, the rates vary according to species and size. For example, Rohu, Calbasu, Bata and Gonia weighing 2 kg and above are priced at Rs 320 per kg, while Catla and other carp varieties weighing 2 kg and above are priced at Rs 350 per kg.

The applicable price will depend on the variety, size and category of fish offered at each sale centre.

The department's initiative is intended to facilitate convenient access to fish during the festive period while making effective use of the state's government-managed fisheries infrastructure.
