As Agartala celebrates Maha Shashthi, marking the beginning of the main festivities of Durga Puja, Mayor Dipak Majumder highlighted the Agartala Municipal Corporation’s preparations to ensure a clean, beautiful, safe and orderly city throughout the festival.

Addressing a press conference at the Agartala Municipal Corporation on Friday, the Mayor discussed various arrangements related to city cleanliness, beautification, public convenience, maintenance of law and order, movement of visitors to puja pandals and the management of idol immersion on Vijaya Dashami.

Emphasising the need to keep Agartala clean and attractive during the festival, Mayor Dipak Majumder said that cleanliness, public convenience and the peaceful conduct of Durga Puja were among the key priorities of the Municipal Corporation. With large numbers of devotees and visitors expected to visit different puja pandals, the civic body stressed the importance of maintaining a clean environment and ensuring that people could move around the city conveniently.

The Mayor also highlighted the importance of cooperation among citizens and the concerned authorities in maintaining peace and order during the festive days. With the city witnessing increased public movement during Durga Puja, proper civic management and coordination are essential to ensure that visitors can enjoy the celebrations in a peaceful atmosphere.

Beautification of the city and improvement of civic services were also among the issues discussed at the press conference. The Municipal Corporation’s preparations focused on maintaining public spaces, improving the overall appearance of the city and ensuring that essential civic services function smoothly during the festival.

Another important issue discussed was the movement of Goddess Durga’s idols from Durga Puja Carnival to Dashami Ghat and the arrangements for idol immersion on Vijaya Dashami. The Mayor highlighted the need for appropriate infrastructure and coordinated arrangements to ensure that the immersion process could be conducted smoothly and in an orderly environment.

The immersion of idols traditionally attracts large crowds, making proper management of the routes and the designated immersion areas particularly important. Ensuring the smooth movement of idols and maintaining public convenience during the process remain significant aspects of the festival arrangements.

The press conference came as Agartala entered the main phase of Durga Puja celebrations, when thousands of residents and visitors take to the streets to visit decorated pandals and participate in the festivities.
