The reconstitution of the Admission Committee of Tripura University has triggered an objection from Prof. V.K. Mishra, Dean of the Faculty of Literature, who has requested the university authorities to exclude him from the committee, alleging that seniority has not been properly considered in the formation of such bodies.
In an email addressed to the university authorities, Prof. Mishra expressed strong reservations about the manner in which committees are constituted, stating that seniority should be respected while assigning responsibilities to faculty members. He urged the Registrar to ensure that the university follows a democratic and transparent system in its administrative decisions.
“Do not include my name in any committee where seniority is not considered,” Prof. Mishra wrote in his communication, expressing concern over what he described as a continuation of practices that disregarded established rules and regulations during the previous administration.
Referring to his earlier objections, Prof. Mishra stated that he had repeatedly raised the issue in writing but believed that his concerns had not received adequate attention. He urged the university administration not to revive what he termed an undesirable tradition and instead work towards establishing a healthy democratic system that would serve the institution's interests.
Prof. Mishra reiterated his request to be excluded from the reconstituted Admission Committee and left the matter to the university administration, appealing to its institutional conscience to address the issue appropriately.
The Admission Committee plays an important role in overseeing admission-related matters at Tripura University, a Central University located at Suryamaninagar in Tripura. Its responsibilities are connected with admissions to various academic programmes, including undergraduate (UG), postgraduate (PG) and Ph.D. courses.
The committee's composition is significant because admission-related decisions affect students seeking entry into different academic programmes and require appropriate administrative coordination and adherence to the university's prescribed rules and procedures.
Prof. Mishra's objection has brought the issue of seniority, procedural fairness and internal democratic practices into focus. His communication raises questions about the criteria followed in constituting university committees and whether the relevant rules, established conventions and principles of institutional governance have been adequately considered.
However, the email reflects Prof. Mishra's position and objections. The university's formal response, the specific provisions governing the committee's composition and the administration's explanation for its decisions were not available in the communication provided.
The development has placed the reconstitution of the Admission Committee under scrutiny, with attention now focused on how the university administration responds to the Dean's request and addresses the concerns raised over seniority and the process of committee formation.
