A major controversy has erupted in Tripura over an alleged fake document racket following the arrest of a youth by Pecharthal Police for his suspected involvement in the production and circulation of forged official documents. The allegations have triggered serious questions about the possible involvement of influential individuals and political connections in the alleged operation.

According to the information available, the accused was allegedly operating an illegal document-forgery racket using counterfeit official seals bearing the names or designations of senior administrative officials, including Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs) and Block Development Officers (BDOs).

In a statement reportedly made before news cameras, the arrested youth allegedly disclosed that he charged Rs.5,000 for preparing a fake Permanent Resident of Tripura Certificate (PRTC) and Rs.8,000 for a fake Aadhaar card.

The alleged disclosure has raised concerns about the scale of the racket, the methods used to prepare the forged documents and the possibility that such documents may have been used to obtain government benefits or other services. The actual extent of the operation and the number of people who may have obtained forged documents have not yet been established.

The most serious allegation emerging from the matter concerns the alleged flow of money collected through the racket. According to the arrested youth’s reported statement, the money collected from customers was transferred to a bank account belonging to the brother of Tripura Minister Santana Chakma.

The allegation, if substantiated by documentary and financial evidence, could significantly widen the scope of the investigation. However, the alleged transfer of money and the identity of the account holder must be independently verified by investigators.

The alleged involvement of individuals described as close associates has also raised questions about whether the operation was being conducted independently or with the assistance of a wider network. These claims require further investigation and corroboration.

Pijosh Debnath has been identified in the allegations provided in connection with the case. His precise role in the alleged racket, however, needs to be established through the police investigation. The allegations also refer to his wife, described as a Chakma woman, but no independently verified evidence establishing her involvement has been provided.

Investigators will need to establish who arranged the forged seals, who prepared and supplied the documents, who collected payments and whether any other individuals knowingly facilitated the alleged illegal operation.
