Tripura Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha on Monday inaugurated 18 development projects and laid foundation stones for three more, involving a combined investment of over Rs 40 crore, under Kumarghat Sub-Division of Unakoti district.
The major development initiatives include seven new Health Sub-Centre buildings, the launch of operation theatre services at Kumarghat Sub-Divisional Hospital, round-the-clock healthcare services at Rajkandi Primary Health Centre, two 50-seated girls’ hostels, improvements to educational infrastructure and several rural connectivity projects. The programme was held at Geetanjali Auditorium in Kumarghat in the presence of ministers, elected representatives and senior government officials.
Healthcare infrastructure featured prominently among the projects inaugurated by the Chief Minister. Seven Health Sub-Centre buildings at Baghaicherra, Nabincherra, North Machmara, Krishnatilla, Bhati Machmara, Sukantanagar and Darchawi were inaugurated to strengthen healthcare facilities at the grassroots level. Operation theatre services were also launched at Kumarghat Sub-Divisional Hospital, while Rajkandi Primary Health Centre began providing 24×7 healthcare services. These initiatives are expected to improve access to medical services for residents, particularly those living in remote areas of the subdivision.
The education sector also received a boost with the inauguration of projects at Kumarghat Government English Medium Higher Secondary School, Ledrai Dewan Higher Secondary School and Pabicherra Higher Secondary School. Two girls’ hostels, each with a capacity of 50 students, were inaugurated at Nabincherra and Ramgunapara. The residential facilities are expected to provide better accommodation for girl students and help improve access to education for those who live far from their schools.
The Chief Minister also inaugurated 12 residential quarters at the Sub-Divisional Magistrate’s Office in Kumarghat under the Revenue Department. The facilities comprise four Type-IV quarters constructed at a cost of Rs 2 crore and eight Type-III quarters costing Rs 2.80 crore, taking the total project cost to Rs 4.80 crore. The new accommodation is intended to improve residential facilities for government officers and employees posted in the subdivision.
Among the three projects for which foundation stones were laid, the proposed 500-seated Multipurpose Community Centre at Pecharthal is the largest, with an estimated cost of Rs 7.61 crore. The centre is expected to provide space for public gatherings, community programmes and other social activities. Another project involves the vertical extension of Pecharthal Primary Health Centre, including the establishment of a Block Public Health Unit, at an estimated cost of Rs 2.50 crore.
The third project, estimated at Rs 1.93 crore, involves urban development works along the road from KN Road Tri-junction to Pabiacherra Class XII School. The proposed facilities include a pedestrian zone, seating arrangements and the installation of a giant screen for mythological shows. The project is intended to improve public amenities and enhance the area’s urban infrastructure.
Rural connectivity was another focus of the development programme. RCC footbridges at Dangutilla and Radhanagar, along with road infrastructure works at Ujan Dudpur and other locations, were included among the development initiatives. These projects are expected to improve connectivity between rural settlements and facilitate access to essential services for local residents.
The programme also featured livelihood promotion and beneficiary support initiatives under the Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission (TRLM). Vehicles were distributed and flagged off under the Startup Village Entrepreneurship Programme (SVEP) and Aajeevika Grameen Express Yojana (AGEY) initiatives to support livelihood opportunities and mobility. Other beneficiary-oriented activities included the distribution of wheelchairs, KAFO-III locomotor assistive devices, fisheries kits, sewing machines under TRLM’s Non-Farm Collective initiative and sports kits. These interventions are aimed at supporting persons with disabilities, strengthening livelihood opportunities, promoting women’s economic participation and encouraging sporting activities.
Minister Santana Chakma, who holds portfolios including Industries and Commerce and Jail (Home), Minister Sukla Charan Noatia, responsible for Cooperation and Welfare of Minorities, and Minister Sudhangshu Das, who joined virtually, attended the programme.
