The recruitment advertisement issued by the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Agartala for 51 non-teaching posts has raised questions over the implementation of the 27% reservation formula for Other Backward Classes (OBCs). Nath Yogi Forum President Harihar Debnath has alleged that the reservation formula has not been properly followed and urged the concerned authorities to ensure compliance with the applicable legal provisions.

Debnath has called for a thorough examination of the category-wise distribution of vacancies and demanded transparency in the implementation of the reservation policy. He has stressed that eligible OBC candidates should receive the benefits of reservation as prescribed under the applicable rules.

According to the NIT Agartala recruitment advertisement dated September 10, 2026, applications have been invited for 51 non-teaching posts across eight categories. The advertised vacancies comprise 27 Unreserved (UR) posts, seven Scheduled Caste (SC) posts, 10 Scheduled Tribe (ST) posts, four OBC-Non-Creamy Layer (OBC-NCL) posts and three Economically Weaker Section (EWS) posts.

The four OBC-NCL vacancies account for approximately 7.84% of the total advertised posts. This distribution has prompted questions from the Nath Yogi Forum over whether the applicable 27% OBC reservation formula has been followed.

Debnath has urged the authorities to clarify the basis on which the reserved vacancies were calculated and to ensure that the recruitment process complies with the relevant reservation rules. He has called for adherence to the 27% OBC reservation formula in accordance with the law.

The issue has brought renewed attention to the implementation of reservation provisions in public-sector recruitment. The Nath Yogi Forum has called for transparency and proper scrutiny to ensure that eligible OBC candidates are not deprived of their lawful entitlements.

The key question is whether NIT Agartala's category-wise vacancy distribution complies with the reservation rules applicable to the advertised posts. A review of the relevant records would be necessary to establish whether any violation has occurred and whether corrective action is warranted.
