The first-year MBBS examination results of three medical colleges in Tripura have raised concerns over the standard of medical education in the state, particularly at private medical institutions. According to the published results, 149 out of 445 students who appeared for the examinations failed, resulting in an overall pass percentage of 66.51%.

The results have brought the academic performance of private medical colleges under scrutiny, with questions being raised about faculty strength, infrastructure, teaching standards and the academic support provided to students.

The results reported for the three institutions are as follows:

1. Tripura Santiniketan Medical College: 85 Students Fail

Tripura Santiniketan Medical College recorded the most concerning results among the institutions covered in the report. Of the 168 students who appeared for the first-year MBBS examinations, 85 failed, while 83 passed.

The college's pass percentage stood at approximately 49.40%, meaning that more than half of the students who appeared failed to clear the examinations.

The result has raised questions about the academic environment and the adequacy of teaching support at the institution. Concerns have also been expressed over whether the facilities and educational support available to students are sufficient to meet the required standards of medical education.

2. Tripura Medical College (TMC): 38 Students Fail

Tripura Medical College (TMC) reportedly had 156 students appearing for the first-year examinations. Of them, 38 failed, while 118 passed.

The college's pass percentage was approximately 75.64%, considerably higher than that of Santiniketan Medical College.

Although the result was comparatively better, the number of students who failed remains a matter of concern, highlighting the need for continued academic supervision and support.

3. Agartala Government Medical CollegeResults

The report compares the performance of the two private medical colleges with that of Agartala Government Medical College, indicating that the government institution performed comparatively better.

However, the supplied results does not clearly establish the complete candidate-wise figures and pass percentage for Agartala Government Medical College. But it is said that 80% students of AGMC passed.

The results have renewed questions about whether private medical colleges in Tripura are maintaining the academic standards expected of institutions responsible for training future doctors.

The report raises concerns about substantial fees charged by private institutions, faculty availability, classroom and laboratory facilities, practical training and the overall learning environment.
