In a heartfelt initiative to strengthen social bonds and honour distinguished personalities of Tripura’s cultural landscape, the Kazi Nazrul Islam Academy and Research Foundation organised a special programme titled ‘Samajik Bandhan’ at the residence of renowned singer Shibaprasad Dhar in the Nagerjala area, near Vivekananda Club, Agartala, on Saturday.
The programme was marked by the distinguished presence of Justice Biswajit Palit of the Tripura High Court, who joined the gathering to pay tribute to the veteran singer and celebrate his invaluable contribution to music and culture. The event brought together music, literature, personal memories and human warmth in an intimate setting, with members of the Academy spending nearly two hours with the celebrated artiste.
The primary objective of the initiative was to enquire about the singer’s health, spend meaningful time with him and listen to his experiences and memories from a long and distinguished musical journey. As part of the programme, the Academy presented a memento to Shibaprasad Dhar in recognition of his lifelong dedication to music and his contribution to Tripura’s cultural heritage.
One of the major highlights of the gathering was a musical performance by Shibaprasad Dhar himself. Despite the intimate nature of the occasion, the veteran artiste enthralled those present with renditions of Nazrulgeeti, Agamani songs and popular compositions associated with legendary singer Manna Dey. His performances reflected the richness of Bengali musical traditions, blending devotion, emotion and the timeless appeal of Bengali culture.
Beyond his musical presentation, Dhar shared several memorable experiences from his artistic career, offering insights into Nazrul Sangeet, Bengali literature and the evolution of music and cultural activities in Tripura. His recollections added depth to the gathering, turning it into an opportunity for the younger generation and fellow cultural enthusiasts to learn from the experiences of a veteran artiste.
Justice Biswajit Palit also added a special dimension to the programme by spontaneously rendering Nazrulgeeti and Agamani songs. His musical participation enlivened the atmosphere and created a memorable moment for those present. The combination of Dhar’s experienced musical renditions and Justice Palit’s own performances made the ‘Samajik Bandhan’ initiative a distinctive cultural gathering.
Discussions during the programme also focused on the development of literature and cultural activities in Tripura, the preservation of the state’s rich cultural heritage and the importance of transmitting these traditions to future generations.
