The Tripura Electronic Media Society (TEMS) has expressed serious concern and strong resentment over the alleged attempt to murder three media professionals—Chandan Dey, Shivananda Shil and Ajay Das—by running them over with a vehicle in the GB area of Agartala. The organisation has demanded the immediate arrest of all those accused in the incident and strict legal action against them.

According to the Society, the three media Professionals were allegedly attacked on Wednesday night while returning home from their respective workplaces through the GB area. They sustained serious injuries and were admitted to the Trauma Care Centre of GBP Hospital for treatment.

On the day following the incident, a delegation of the Tripura Electronic Media Society visited the injured media Professionals at the hospital to enquire about their health and medical treatment. The delegation also met police officials at the GB Police Outpost and demanded the immediate arrest of the accused, along with exemplary legal action against those involved.

However, the failure to arrest the accused even after three days reportedly triggered widespread resentment among members of the journalistic fraternity. Protesting against the alleged delay and inaction by the police, journalists from different media organisations staged a road blockade in the GB area on Saturday, demanding swift action in the case.

Following the protest, senior police officials reached the spot and held discussions with the agitating journalists. Additional Superintendent of Police Dhruva Nath assured the protesters that all the accused would be arrested within the next 48 hours. Following the assurance, the journalists withdrew their road blockade.

In a statement, the Tripura Electronic Media Society emphasised that ensuring the safety and security of journalists is a fundamental responsibility of the administration. The organisation described the alleged attack on the three media professionals as a matter of grave concern and called for an impartial investigation, the prompt arrest of all the accused and stringent legal action in accordance with the law.

TEMS President Pranab Sarkar warned that if the police failed to arrest the accused within the 48-hour deadline given by the senior police officer, journalists would be compelled to launch a larger protest movement.
