Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) Mayor and MLA Dipak Majumder has emphasised the importance of adequate security arrangements, effective traffic management and coordinated efforts among all concerned departments to ensure the peaceful and successful celebration of the upcoming Maayer Gomon Carnival 2026.
The Mayor made these remarks while chairing a review meeting on the preparatory measures for the carnival at the conference hall of the Agartala Municipal Corporation on Friday. The meeting assessed the progress of preparations and reviewed arrangements for the smooth conduct of the annual procession marking the farewell to Goddess Durga.
Addressing the meeting, Majumder said that all necessary arrangements were being made to ensure that the carnival was conducted peacefully and in an orderly manner, as in previous years. He stressed that the administration was giving priority to public safety and crowd management, considering the large number of devotees and spectators expected to attend the event.
The Mayor informed the meeting that adequate police deployment and additional security measures would be arranged for the occasion. Special barricades would be installed in front of City Centre to regulate crowd movement and prevent overcrowding at important locations.
Emphasising the need for coordinated traffic management, Majumder said that arrangements must be made to ensure the uninterrupted movement of emergency service vehicles, particularly ambulances. The concerned authorities would take appropriate steps to minimise traffic congestion and avoid inconvenience to the general public during the procession.
The Mayor also appealed to all participating clubs, Durga Puja committees and officials of the departments concerned to extend their full cooperation to the administration. He urged all stakeholders to follow the prescribed guidelines and discharge their responsibilities to ensure that the carnival concluded peacefully.
The Maayer Gomon Carnival, jointly organised by the Agartala Municipal Corporation and the Department of Information and Cultural Affairs (ICA), has become an important cultural event in the state capital. This year's carnival is scheduled to be held on October 23, with the main programme planned near Maharani Tulsibati Girls' School.
During the meeting, ICA Department Director Bimbisar Bhattacharya explained the proposed procession route and briefed the participants on the arrangements for the event.
The meeting was attended by AMC Deputy Mayor Manika Das Dutta, Municipal Commissioner Saju Vaheed A., West Tripura District Magistrate Dr. Vishal Kumar, Smart City CEO G. Sarath Naik, West Tripura Superintendent of Police Namit Pathak, Traffic Superintendent of Police Kanta Jangir, Director ICA Bimbisar Bhattacharya and other senior officials representing various departments.
The Mayor expressed confidence that close coordination between the municipal corporation, police, district administration, traffic authorities and participating clubs would help ensure the safe, peaceful and successful conduct of Maayer Gomon Carnival 2026.
