The Sipahijala wildlife sanctuary located in majestic desolation with lush greenery , thirty kms south of Agartala beside the national highway , has recently gained in attraction of tourists. The reason for this is the birth of three new cubs from the womb of a royal Bengal tiger in early September, preceded by the descent on the sanctuary by three cubs of a leopard couple.
The tourists and people keen to enjoy the solitary beauty of the sanctuary have been coming daily in large numbers to enjoy the sight of the animals and the newborn royal Bengal cubs as well as the cubs of the leopard couple. Their swift movement in the animal enclosure and playful ways fascinate the tourists from within and without the state. Besides, the added attraction of the sanctuary is the calm and charming movement of a number of peacocks celebrated in Indian epics and classical literature. There are also the clouded leopards and the rare species of spectacled monkey as well as other beasts and birds in the zoo of the sanctuary that now has been attracting more and more people.
Speaking on the issue Siddhartha Debbarma , the director of zoo, said that the birth of the three each of royal Bengal cubs and leopard cubs prove the success of the animal breeding process in the zoo. “All the newborns are safe and sound and are being fed adequately for growth ; we hope the zoo and the sanctuary at large will now go from strength to strength and tourists will come in larger numbers” said Siddhartha Debbarma. He added that special care is being taken to maintain and improve the natural ambience of the sanctuary and zoo along with tighter security measures for protection.
