Nearly 4.8 lakh students from around 5,000 schools across Tripura are participating in the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan, a month-long campaign centred on community service, cleanliness, environmental conservation and social responsibility.
The campaign, being observed from September 17 to October 17, covers government, government-aided and private schools, along with offices under the Education Department and local communities.
District-wise, about 680 schools in West Tripura, 517 in Khowai, 864 in Dhalai, 372 in Unakoti, 543 in North Tripura, 655 in Sepahijala, 620 in Gomati and 670 in South Tripura are taking part in the programme.
As part of the ‘Mere Sapne Ka Bharat – Chitra Seva’ initiative, schools conducted drawing competitions on September 30 on the themes ‘Viksit Bharat Sankalp’ and ‘25 Years of Seva’. Selected entries will be displayed at an exhibition, the date for which will be decided in consultation with the district administrations.
The campaign also features ‘Namo Seva – Ankahi Kahaniyan’, under which street plays are being organised at selected schools, colleges and other public places. Local theatre groups are performing plays based on centrally provided scripts.
For the street-play programme, 10 schools in West Tripura, seven in Sepahijala, nine in Khowai, seven each in Dhalai, Gomati, North Tripura and South Tripura, and five in Unakoti have been identified.
Under ‘Seva Mera Yogdan’, students and citizens are being encouraged to participate in voluntary social welfare activities. Cleanliness drives have been organised at schools and offices of District Education Officers and Inspectors of Schools, while tree plantation activities were conducted during September.
Blood donation camps are also scheduled to be held at 100 schools and Education Department offices during September and October.
Several schools have also organised ‘Tithi Bhojan’ programmes, encouraging parents, local residents and other community members to participate in meals at schools.
The campaign seeks to encourage voluntary service and community participation among students and citizens, with activities focusing on social welfare, environmental awareness and public participation.
