Nefarious activities of Kailasahar women police station, refusal to register complaint and harassment of complainant and family

The nefarious and anti-people activities of Kailasahar women police station manifested in refusal to register even legitimate complaint and harassment of complainants and their relatives by the officer in charge of women police station Rinki Debbarma and her colleagues have now become a source of regular tension in the police station’s area of jurisdiction. This has coe to fore yet again from an incident of attempted rape and molestation of a minor girl by a Rajasthani labourer last night .

Sources from Kailasahar said that around 10-00 last night a sixteen year old girl had been returning home alone from her maternal uncle’s house but when she was passing by the Gobindapur sports office an unknown youth grabbed her and pressed his hand on her mouth while trying to kidnap her. But the girl bit the miscreant youth’s hand and managed to wriggle out of his grip and started shouting . Having heard her cries for help the local people rushed out of home and saw the hapless girl trembling on the spot. The Kailasahar women police station was informed telephonically but the police team took more than an hour to cover a distance of only 700 metres for reaching the spot. Finally the police team arrived and with great reluctance took the victim girl and her parents to the police station. The miscreant boy by then had fled inside the under-construction indoor stadium.

But after the minor girl and her parents reached the women police station they were rebuked by the officer in charge Rinki Debbarma for creating unnecessary fuss over a ‘trifling matter’ . The OC also sternly asked the minor girl why she had been alone on the road at 10-00 in the night, in stead of registering the complaint, and also charged the girl with efforts to file a false complaint . By this time a number of local media persons had reached the women police station and for fear of exposure the OC ordered registration of the complaint and sent a team to nab the culprit, Rajasthani labourer who had arrived here with others to work on the construction of the indoor stadium. The miscreant labourer was easily spotted and arrested by police for fear of public rection and the youth is being produced in court today.

Sources said that the people of Kailasahar are deeply upset over the behavior of the OC Rinki Debbarma and are planning a protest . The higher authority in Unakoti district police is also aware of the dereliction of duty on the part of Kailasahar women police station in many cases but have never shown any intent to chastise them and correct the situation. The state level high authority of police is also totally apathetic to what goes on in the name of policing in different parts of the state.
