A complex surgery for a 40-year-old woman suffering from pleomorphic adenoma of the parotid gland was successfully performed at the Shantirbazar District Hospital in South Tripura, hospital authorities said.
The patient, identified as Monra Khatun, underwent the surgery on Wednesday. The procedure, which required precise and prolonged surgical intervention, lasted about four hours.
The surgery was performed by ENT specialist Dr Bidyut Chakraborty, while Dr Ajay Pal was responsible for anaesthesia, hospital authorities said.
The patient's condition is currently stable and she is being kept under observation for further treatment and care, they said.
The hospital has been performing various ENT-related surgeries, including complex procedures, on a regular basis, according to the authorities. Several complex surgeries have been successfully conducted at the district hospital over the past month, they said.
Medical Superintendent Dr Lufang Mog said the availability of such procedures at the district hospital was possible through coordination among specialist doctors, the anaesthesia team, the operation theatre team and other healthcare workers.
He said some procedures that previously required patients to travel to Agartala could now be performed at the district hospital.
The hospital authorities said the effort was aimed at providing advanced, safe and affordable healthcare services closer to patients.
