The BJP is facing fresh internal discontent in parts of South Tripura following the recent ADC Village Committee election results, with reports that a large number of party supporters have left the organisation in protest against what they described as the party’s weakening position against Tipra Motha.
Reports from Birchandra-Manu and Manaipathar areas claim that around more than 100 BJP supporters have reportedly left the party following developments surrounding a road blockade staged by BJP workers and supporters after the election results.
The supporters reportedly expressed dissatisfaction after BJP MLA Pramod Reang allegedly exerted pressure on protesters to withdraw the road blockade. The development has reportedly intensified resentment among a section of BJP supporters, who accused the party leadership of failing to adequately stand by its grassroots workers.
The reported exits come at a politically sensitive time for the BJP in the ADC areas, where Tipra Motha has emerged as the dominant force following the Village Committee elections. The latest developments have triggered fresh discussions within BJP circles over the party’s organisational strength and its ability to counter Tipra Motha at the grassroots level.
The reported departure of supporters from Birchandra-Manu and Manaipathar could further complicate the BJP’s political position in these areas ahead of the next phase of post-election political activity.
