Tension reportedly escalated in different parts of Tripura following the declaration of the results of the TTAADC Village Committee elections, with allegations of political violence and attacks involving supporters of the Tipra Motha and BJP.

In South Tripura's Bir Chandramanu area, a group of BJP workers and supporters reportedly blocked a national highway alleging attacks by Tipra Motha supporters on BJP workers and the houses of some victorious BJP candidates. The protesters demanded the immediate arrest of those allegedly involved in the incidents.

According to BJP sources, tensions began after the declaration of the Village Committee election results, when Tipra Motha candidates secured victories in a large number of seats. The BJP alleged that, despite the electoral outcome, supporters of Tipra Motha subsequently attacked some BJP candidates and their supporters in areas where the BJP had secured victories.

The BJP further alleged that several vehicles and a large number of motorcycles were used during the incidents in Manu throughout the day. Some BJP workers reportedly claimed that they were unable to remain at their homes due to fear of further attacks and sought protection near the Manpathar Police Outpost, where they joined the road blockade.

The situation remained tense until late evening. BJP Youth Morcha Mandal Vice-President Anju Mog reportedly demanded the immediate arrest of those allegedly responsible for the attacks.

The blockade was later lifted following the intervention of local MLA Pramod Reang. However, Ram Babu Reang, a state committee member of the BJP's Janajati Morcha, reportedly warned that if those allegedly involved in the attacks were not arrested by tonight, the protesters would resume the road blockade from tomorrow morning.

The developments have added to political tensions in the aftermath of the ADC Village Committee election results. Tipra Motha founder Pradyot Kishore Debbarma had earlier appealed to supporters to maintain peace and refrain from attacking anyone following the announcement of the results. However, allegations of clashes and attacks have since emerged from several districts and subdivisions.

Meanwhile, a separate incident was reported from Chailengta on Tuesday, where tension reportedly erupted in the SC Colony area at around 2 PM following allegations surrounding a Tipra Motha party office.

According to allegations, BJP workers closed down a Tipra Motha party office in the area and subsequently vandalised the office. The allegation triggered tension in the locality, with supporters of the two political groups reportedly becoming involved in a confrontation.

The latest incidents have raised concerns over the post-election political atmosphere in the tribal areas of the state. While the election results have been interpreted by the NDA camp as a significant political victory, allegations of attacks against grassroots-level workers have also triggered criticism from within political circles.

The incidents also highlight the contrasting political atmosphere being witnessed at different levels of the political establishment. While senior leaders have been celebrating the election outcome and describing it as a victory for the NDA, grassroots-level workers in some areas have alleged that they are facing attacks and insecurity.

Police and local administration are expected to closely monitor the situation in the affected areas to prevent further escalation and maintain peace following the Village Committee election results.
