The State Election Commission on Tuesday released the final results and detailed statistical analysis of the 2026 TTAADC Village Committee elections, with Tipra Motha Party emerging as the dominant political force by securing 46.76 per cent of the total vote share and winning 3,428 of the 4,597 Village Committee seats. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) emerged as the second-largest political force with 28.00 per cent of the vote and 859 seats.

The detailed analysis was announced by State Chief Election Commissioner PK Chakraborty and State Election Commission Secretary Anurag Sen at a press conference held at the State Secretariat in Agartala on Tuesday evening. According to the Commission, the CPI(M) secured 12.90 per cent of the votes and won 87 seats, while Independents received 7.74 per cent of the vote and secured 173 seats. The IPFT secured 2.74 per cent of the vote, while the Indian National Congress received 1.86 per cent.

At the Village Committee level, Tipra Motha secured a majority in 457 VCs, while the BJP emerged with a majority in 94 VCs. The CPI(M) secured a majority in two Village Committees and the IPFT also secured a majority in two. A total of 31 Village Committees recorded an Independent majority or were predominantly won by unaffiliated Independent candidates.

The final seat distribution released by the State Election Commission shows that Tipra Motha won 3,428 seats out of the total 4,597 seats, including uncontested seats. The BJP secured 859 seats, Independents won 173, CPI(M) secured 87, IPFT won 29 and the Congress secured 14 seats. Three seats remained vacant.

The vote-share figures provide another important dimension to the election results. Tipra Motha's 46.76 per cent vote share placed the party 18.76 percentage points ahead of the BJP, which secured 28 per cent. The CPI(M), with 12.90 per cent, remained the third-largest party in terms of vote share, followed by Independents with 7.74 per cent. The IPFT and Congress recorded significantly smaller shares at 2.74 per cent and 1.86 per cent respectively.

The Commission also announced the final voter turnout figures after incorporating the votes cast during the repoll held at two polling stations. A total of 5,33,808 voters cast their votes at polling stations, while another 6,628 voters exercised their franchise through EDV. The total number of voters who cast their votes therefore stood at 5,40,436, resulting in an overall poll turnout of 81.29 per cent, including EDV.

The gender-wise figures showed particularly strong participation by women. At polling stations, 2,62,911 male voters and 2,70,897 female voters exercised their franchise. Thus, female voter participation exceeded male participation by 7,986 voters, underlining the significant role played by women in the Village Committee elections.

Among the districts, South Tripura recorded the highest voter turnout at 86.08 per cent, while West Tripura recorded the lowest turnout at 72.64 per cent. Despite the variation among districts, the overall turnout of more than 81 per cent reflected substantial participation in the grassroots democratic exercise.

The State Election Commission said the counting process was conducted successfully on October 5 at 44 counting locations comprising 45 counting halls situated across 44 RD Blocks of the state. Counting began at 8:00 AM and most Returning Officers completed the process by the evening. However, due to the large number of seats involved, counting in Manu RD Block continued until the very early hours of October 6.

The Commission said necessary passes were issued by the Returning Officers to authorised counting agents representing different political parties. Elaborate security arrangements were also made at all counting centres. Central security forces, Tripura State Rifles and State Police personnel were deployed, creating a three-layer security arrangement at the counting venues and surrounding areas.

According to the Commission, strict frisking and security protocols were followed for officials and counting agents entering the counting halls, and there was not a single security-related incident or disruption inside any counting hall during the counting process.

The Commission acknowledged that minor disagreements and local tensions had emerged before counting began in Salema, Tulasikhar and Kathalia RD Blocks. However, the situations were swiftly brought under control through timely intervention by the police and local administration, allowing the counting process to proceed peacefully.

The final results indicate a clear dominance of Tipra Motha in the grassroots political structure of the TTAADC. With 3,428 seats and 46.76 per cent of the vote, the party has established a substantial lead over the BJP, which emerged as the second-largest force with 859 seats and 28 per cent of the vote.

At the same time, the results show that the BJP has retained a significant electoral presence in the ADC areas, while the CPI(M), despite winning only 87 seats, secured 12.90 per cent of the vote. The relatively low vote shares of the Congress and IPFT indicate a considerably smaller electoral footprint in the final Village Committee results.

The State Election Commission expressed its gratitude to District Election Officers, Returning Officers, Assistant Returning Officers, Sector Officers and officials from various government departments for their efforts in conducting the election and counting process. The Commission also thanked the Director General of Police, IG (Law & Order), SPs, SDPOs, State Police, TSR and Central Security Forces for maintaining peace and security throughout the election process.

The Commission further thanked all participating political parties for cooperating with the election authorities and upholding democratic values. The media fraternity was also acknowledged for disseminating election-related information to the public and reporting developments from the field.

The State Election Commission finally expressed its gratitude to the voters of Tripura, whose active participation resulted in an 81.29 per cent turnout and contributed to the successful completion of the 2026 TTAADC Village Committee elections. With the counting process completed and the final statistical analysis released, the Commission has formally concluded the election and result-counting process for the 2026 Village Committee polls.
