The results of the TTAADC Village Committee Elections 2026 have delivered an early political setback for Tripura BJP State President Abhishek Deb Roy, with Tipra Motha candidates reportedly winning all 10 Village Committees falling under his Matabari Assembly constituency.

For the newly appointed state BJP president, the Village Committee election was widely viewed as an important early political test and an opportunity to demonstrate the organisational strength of the party in his own Assembly constituency. However, the results emerging from Matabari indicate that the BJP’s performance has not been particularly encouraging, as Tipra Motha candidates defeated BJP nominees in all 10 Village Committees in the constituency.

The Matabari Block has a total of 12 Village Committees, of which 10 fall under the Matabari Assembly constituency, while the remaining two are under the Salgara Assembly constituency.

The contest in the Matabari area was primarily between the BJP and Tipra Motha. According to the results available so far, Tipra Motha candidates emerged victorious in all 10 Village Committees under Matabari Assembly constituency.

The Village Committees where Tipra Motha reportedly secured victories are Kakraban, Garji, Purba Garchichhara, Purba Chandrapur RF, Purba Mag Puskarini, Perachong, Rathchhara, Gamaria, Dakshin Maharani and Purba Dakshin Maharani.

The results assume added political significance because Matabari is the Assembly constituency represented by BJP State President Abhishek Deb Roy. The sweeping victory of Tipra Motha across all 10 Village Committees is therefore likely to trigger discussions within political circles over the BJP’s organisational strength and electoral prospects in the tribal-dominated areas of the constituency.

The broader results from the Udaipur subdivision also indicate a strong performance by Tipra Motha.

Across the Killa, Matabari and Kakraban Blocks, there are reportedly 23 Village Committees, of which Tipra Motha has won 21, according to the results available so far.

Tipra Motha also secured victories in several Village Committees under Kakraban Block, including Shamukchhara, Dakshin Ruphi, Purba Tulumura, Duptali and Uttar Shilghati.

The Killa Block results similarly demonstrate the dominance of Tipra Motha. Of the 16 Village Committees in the block, Tipra Motha reportedly secured a majority in 14, while the BJP emerged with a majority in two Village Committees.

The available results from Killa Block further indicate that out of 126 Village Committee seats, the BJP secured 11 seats, while a CPI(M) candidate also won one seat.

The emerging picture from Matabari, Killa and Kakraban suggests that Tipra Motha has maintained a strong organisational and electoral presence across large parts of the TTAADC areas of the Udaipur subdivision.

A Significant Political Message for BJP

The Matabari outcome is particularly noteworthy because the constituency is politically linked to the BJP’s state leadership. With Tipra Motha defeating BJP candidates in every Village Committee under the constituency, the results could be interpreted as a significant message from the electorate ahead of future political contests.

At the same time, the Village Committee election results represent a local-level electoral mandate and should not automatically be treated as a direct indicator of Assembly election outcomes. Nevertheless, the complete sweep by Tipra Motha in the 10 Village Committees of Matabari is likely to intensify political debate over the BJP’s support base and organisational machinery in the constituency.

For Abhishek Deb Roy, who recently assumed charge as the Tripura BJP president, the Village Committee election was effectively one of his first major electoral tests in the new organisational role. The results from his own Assembly constituency therefore carry significance beyond the Village Committee polls themselves.
