Tipra Motha Backs CPI(M) Candidate to Form Village Council in Ailmara Despite Poll Alliance with BJP

A fresh political equation has emerged in the TTAADC’s village-level politics after Tipra Motha reportedly decided to seek the support of a CPI(M) candidate to form the Village Council in Ailmara Village under Rupaichari blook in South Tripura, despite the party having fought the Village Committee elections in alliance with the BJP.

The development has reportedly surprised local residents and raised questions over the emerging post-election political equations within the ADC areas.

The nine-member Ailmara Village Council has produced a closely divided mandate. According to the results, Tipra Motha won four seats, the BJP secured four seats and the CPI(M) won one seat. With the two major NDA partners—Tipra Motha and BJP—ending up with an equal number of seats, the lone CPI(M) winner women candidate has emerged as the potential deciding factor in the formation of the Village Council.

According to a Tipra Motha leader, the CPI(M) candidate has agreed to support Tipra Motha in the formation of the Village Council. The leader reportedly said that the CPI(M) winner had gone to the BDO office and expressed his willingness to support Tipra Motha.

The reported move has created considerable interest in the village because Tipra Motha and BJP had contested the TTAADC Village Committee elections as allies. However, the post-election arithmetic in Ailmara has apparently forced a different political calculation, with Tipra Motha now seeking support from a CPI(M) representative to secure control of the council.

The development is being viewed locally as an example of how the electoral arithmetic at the grassroots level can produce political arrangements different from broader party alliances.

The situation is particularly notable because a four-four split between Tipra Motha and BJP leaves neither party in a position to form the council independently. The single CPI(M) seat therefore becomes crucial for determining which side can establish control.
