Bangladesh smuggler killed in border clash

A Bangladeshi smuggler was shot dead by the Border Security Force (BSF) today in the Putia area under the jurisdiction of Kalamchoura Police Station.

The injured sustained bullet injury from non-lethal PAG (Pump Action Gun), a statement from the BSF revealed. The injured Bangladeshi national was brought to Bishalgarh Sub-Divisional Hospital for treatment. He breathed his last at the hospital.

Upon receiving the news, police from Bishalgarh police station rushed to the hospital. According to BSF sources, a group of smugglers was attempting to carry out smuggling activities through the Putia border area.

When BSF personnel intervened to stop them, the smugglers allegedly did not comply with their warnings. This led to a confrontation prompting the BSF personnel to open fire at the smugglers leading to the death one of the smugglers

The deceased smuggler has been identified as Md. Alamin, a resident of Bangladesh. His body is currently kept at Bishalgarh Sub-Divisional Hospital morgue.

A press statement issued by the BSF said: “On 28th February at around 1930 hrs, a group of 20 to 25 Bangladeshi miscreants intruded inside Indian territory near Border Post 2050/7-S in the area of BOP Putia, Sepahijala District and indulged in smuggling with Indian miscreants. When alerted by a BSF patrol party, they attacked the party in which one BSF jawan got seriously injured. Subsequently, again the party was attacked and miscreants tried to snatch BSF personnel's weapons. In order to protect his own life, a BSF jawan fired one round of PAG (non lethal) self defence. Resultantly Bangladesh national got injured and he has been evacuated to hospital and is undergoing treatment.”

A BSF Jawan is also hospitalized due to the scuffle.
